CLASS DESCRIPTION

During the summer of 2018, I spent time in Belfast, Northern Ireland- the birthplace of Titanic!! I went to the amazing Titanic museum there and shot a lot of footage for class, and then something absolutely amazing happened….I found the little known Titanic dry dock- where the ship was built- and found myself ALONE inside! Talk about a memorable and emotional experience!! I then traveled to Cobh, Ireland (formerly known as Queenstown) to tour the museum there and see the actual dock where the final passengers left to board the ship- many to never set foot on land again. It was truly an amazing journey I took, following Titanic’s path and learning so much.

I’m so excited to be able to share this “virtual field” trip with my students! We’ll learn all about how Titanic was built, her final voyage, and the people who sank with her- some who survived and many who didn’t. Then, we’ll learn about the rediscovery of the Titanic on the ocean floor and the artifacts that have been recovered. Please join me for this one of a kind learning experience!

CLASS FORMAT

No live classes–view lessons on YOUR schedule. In general, expect 1.5-2.5 hours to work through the lesson plan each week, and an additional 2-5 hours working on assignments (it really depends what assignment your child chooses to do and how they manage their time). For classes with two levels, the material is the same for both- the depth of the assignments differs. Younger students should usually be placed in Level 1. Older students, or younger students who want more of a challenge, should be placed in Level 2. Each lesson consists of a fully narrated PowerPoint presentation with images and videos to enhance the topics. Students will have access to our learning management system, Canvas, for viewing their lesson, printing worksheets, taking quizzes, and viewing assignments.
