Sourcefulness: A Guide to Finding Reliable Sources$5
About this course
Curious if the format of Next Level Homeschool classes will match your child’s learning style? This is a good class to take! A one week, self paced, in depth class on identifying reliable sources – for only $5!
Description: This is a one-week class run by Next Level’s history teacher, Dylan Monshaugen. In a world with so much information access through the internet, the problem is no longer finding information. It is finding good information from trustworthy sources that can be verified. This class acts as a brief lesson on hunting down good research sources and identifying ones that should be ignored, while also giving students and their parents a glimpse into how Mr. Monshaugen’s other courses operate. We will be working with real sources, learning what makes a source strong or weak, and figuring out how to identify a strong source when we come across it in our research.
The lesson consists of a fully narrated powerpoint with embedded images and videos to enhance the topics. Students will have access to our learning management system, Canvas, for viewing their lesson plan and taking their quiz. Expect 1-2 hours to complete the course.
Recommended Ages: This class is ideal for students ages 10-17. Younger academically gifted students will be accepted.
Start Date: June 7. Course consists of 1 lesson plan. No live classes — view the lessons on YOUR schedule. We send out class access instructions every Tuesday for all enrollments received on or before that Monday. You will have until August 23 to complete the course. This gives you complete freedom during the summer to do the work!
Note: This class differs from other Next Level Homeschool courses in that it has no project/assignments to turn in for grading/feedback, no report card, and no student discussion. Other than that, the format and style is what you can expect from our other offerings. No discounts are offered on this class.
